The Greenhouse Project homes are the best national organization I’ve found so far, although there are some wonderful individual places in bigger metropolitan areas, including small mom-and-pop group homes (though these tend to be assisted living homes). The Green houses are aware of the importance of trying to keep costs down--when I interviewed the senior director in 2019, we spent some time discussing the issue and it was high on her radar. Because they’re nursing homes, as opposed to assisted living homes, they qualify for Medicare and Medicaid. Each project is individually managed and owned, so costs vary and so do the number of Medicaid beds available. Another issue, of course, is whether there’s a Greenhouse Project in your region; the closest one to us is six or seven hours away.

The Greenhouse Project homes seem the best. However, are they not out of reach financially for nearly anyone who is not quite wealthy?
